Starting as soon as possible, our Department Survey Data Curation, Team Survey Data Augmentation located in Cologne, is looking for a
Democracy Data Expert (PostDoc)
(Salary group 13 TV-L, full time, initially limited to 4 years)
The department Survey Data Curation processes and prepares social science research data across a diverse range of data types to support sociological and political science
research, especially in comparative perspectives across space and time. The team “Survey Data Augmentation” focuses on linking survey data with other data types. We are
currently establishing a Competence Center for Data Access and Linkage for the emerging data infrastructure “Monitoring Electoral Democracy”
(MEDem).
Your tasks will be:
Supporting the establishment of the MEDem competence center that will advance data access and linking techniques for democracy and elections research
Exploring advances in data access using metadata models that can support interoperability of relevant data on study and variable level
Exploring advances in data linking using geospatial analysis and/or automated entity recognition from text
Writing grant proposals to advance data access and data linking techniques and tools
Conducting top level research on democracy and elections using linked data from different sources
Your profile:
A PhD in political science or a related discipline with a focus on empirical democracy and/or elections research
Proven understanding of scholarly debates on democracy and/or elections through a high-quality publication record
Advanced skills in the statistical software R, with the focus on either geospatial analysis or automated text analysis
Ability to work together with software developers to create a data infrastructure
Excellent command of the English language
