"IT Strategies in the Product Development Process"
To strengthen our team for our mechanical engineering/product
development and simulation programmes in the Faculty of Mechanical
Engineering and Materials Science, we are currently
seeking to appoint
a professor (m/f, salary grade W3) in the field of: IT Strategies
in the Product Development Process
The candidate is expected to carry out teaching and research
with regard to the virtual representation and organisation of
production and assembly processes in the context of product
lifecycle management (PLM) tools and technologies for digitally
connecting systems and machines. It is intended that the
candidate’s activities will focus on the area of the product
development process that incorporates the physical manufacture
of the product. This is covered by the virtual factory model.
The candidate will instruct students on the development of
data structures for digitally connecting production processes.
The focus of the digital factory model lies on the planning of
production and assembly automation. These activities are
supported by the use of web-based technologies. A close fit
with the existing range of courses on the Internet of Things is
Core subjects to be taught include information technology as
well as systems and control technology. The candidate may
conduct research on their own existing specialist area.
Requirements for the position (as per Section 47 of the Baden-
Württemberg Higher Education Act) include:
Completed university degree in mechanical engineering,
electrical engineering, mechatronics or production engineering.
Demonstrable aptitude for academic work, generally evidenced
by a doctorate.
Particular achievements in the application of academic findings
to professional practice of at least five years’ duration, with
three years spent outside the university sector (ideally in the
automotive industry, OEM and/or supplier).
Willingness to develop appropriate IT infrastructures for connecting
systems and machines with the software tools and
databases used in product lifecycle management.
Experience of attracting third-party funding and of research
activities in the context of Industry 4.0.
Willingness to develop a research specialism.
Desire to engage in technology transfer with industry in the
Practical aptitude for teaching and education.
Participation in internationalisation strategy and the development
of English-language lecture content for our study programmes;
the candidate must therefore be prepared to offer
at least one lecture in English.
Excellent written and spoken English skills.
