Junior Principal Investigator: Start up package for
external grant applicants
The Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB) at the Science Campus Bahrenfeld in Hamburg, Germany, offers outstanding opportunities for world-class academics and research.
CSSB is a cooperation of research partners from northern Germany and is rapidly evolving into an internationally recognised centre for structural biology research, particularly in the field of infection biology. CSSB fosters interdisciplinary collaborations and benefits from access to the unique infrastructure and diverse scientific environment of the Science Campus Bahrenfeld, which houses among others the DESY (German national synchrotron), EMBL Hamburg (European Molecular Biology Laboratory), CFEL (Centre for Free-Electron Laser Science), MPSD (Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter) and the European XFEL (X-Ray Free Electron Laser).
To provide outstanding early career researchers with new opportunities to foster and accelerate their research CSSB offers laboratory space and full access to its unique infrastructure. Individual research should focus on structural and systems approaches to studying infectious diseases.
Requirements:
2-7 years of experience following PhD (exceptions for medical scholars, periods of parental leave etc.).
Excellent track record with regard to publications and third-party funding.
Successful application for an ERC Starting Grant or similar funding opportunities such as the DFG Emmy Noether Programme, VW Freigeist Fellowships, or Sofja Kovalevskaja Award.
Grant agreements signed with one of the CSSB partner institutions (www.cssb-hamburg.de).
What we offer:
World-class laboratory space.
Full access to in-house infrastructure including the core facilities for protein production and characterization, protein crystallization, as well as light and cryo-electron microscopy.
Access to CSSB-funded SEED project grant competitions.
Facilitated access to the infrastructures at partner institutions.
Formal association with the chosen partner institution. The initial appointment will be for up to five years, beginning with the formal acceptance of the grant agreement.
What you need to do:
Contact scientific director Prof. Dr Chris Meier for additional information on which CSSB partner institution would be most suitable for you.
Get in touch with CSSB group leaders. For further information on CSSB and its members / partner institutions, please consult the CSSB homepage
(www.cssb-hamburg.de).
The CSSB embraces diversity and equal opportunities for its members. If you intend to apply for an ERC Starting Grant (or equivalent) and are supported by a
CSSB group leader / home institution, the CSSB will arrange assistance for the preparation of your grant proposal.
CSSB is a cooperation without its own legal personality. All partners act exclusively in their own name and on their own costs.
