The Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts hereby announces, through the Elite Network of Bavaria,
its intention to establish, from 2024,
up to six Junior Research Groups in natural sciences, mathematics, engineering, informatics, and life sciences / medical sciences.
at Bavarian public universities. The research projects should be integrated in or supplement the topic of an Elite Graduate Program or International Doctorate Program in the Elite Network of Bavaria.
With their proposal applicants apply for the establishment of the Junior Research Group as well as for the position as head of the group.
For an application to be successful, it must include outstanding scientific achievements and an innovative, original proposal for research at the frontiers of knowledge in the respective discipline. Eligible applicants are suitably qualified persons from Germany and abroad between two and five years after the doctorate (passed oral examination), who have not worked at the location of the host university so far or in the last two years before the funding starts.
Due to the required integration into the topic of an ongoing Elite Graduate Program or an International Doctorate Program in the Elite Network Bavaria, an application is only possible after prior consultation with a scientist who is involved in an ongoing Elite Graduate Program or an International Doctorate Program.
The Junior Research Groups will receive funding over a period of 6 years, with one position for the leader (paid at Grade 15 of the Collective Wage Agreement for the Civil Service, applicable at Länder-level [TV-L, E 15]), and two further positions for doctoral students (paid at Grade 13 [TV-L, E 13]), as well as attractive funding for material resources.
Applicants who have already completed a W1/W2-level appointment process at the host university may also apply for a W1/W2-level position as leader, subject to certain requirements.
The Junior Research Groups are selected in a two-stage competitive procedure. Initially a
draft proposal must be submitted to the Bavarian Elite Network office
by 30 March 2023 at the latest. The Coordination Office will then invite applicants whose proposals are assessed positively by an international and interdisciplinary panel (International Commission of the Elite Network of Bavaria) to submit a full application in July of 2023.
Women are encouraged to apply.
The position is suitable for severely disabled persons. Severely disabled applicants will be given preferential consideration in the case of essentially equal suitability and qualification.
