Associate Professorship in Microbiology
and Microbiome Research
(Salary group: W2 BBesG)

The employment will be for five years with the possibility of further extension following successful evaluation.
The professorship is a central component of the Microbiome Research Unit being established jointly by the Department of
Microbiology of the Charité and the BIH Medical Genomics Center. The successful candidate should have proven experience
in the fields of microbiology, microbiome research and metagenomics.
The following areas of research with translational potential will be considered
for candidates to fill this position: host-microbe interaction, microbial ecology and microbial communities, microbial factors and metabolites orchestrating
host-microbe mutualism, specific microbial consortia or species during eubiosis or dysbiosis, microbial signals during pregnancy
and in the newborn period for host fitness, microbiome impact on immunovigilance, high complexity
metagenomic sequencing technology and microbiome evolution.
Charité and BIH seek to fill this position with an outstanding, internationally recognized scientist with an excellent track
record in the fields of microbiology
as well as in microbiome research and metagenomics. A publication record demonstrating high-impact research and a strong funding
record are expected, as well as the initiation of third-party funded, interdisciplinary national
and international research projects. The successful candidate will be engaged in teaching activities at Charité, BIH, and MDC,
supervise Master and Doctoral candidates, and participate in academic self-organization.
Qualifications: as per § 100 Berlin Higher Education Act (BerlHG) junior professorship or postdoctoral thesis (Habilitation),
or equivalent scientific achievement and teaching qualification. Completed university degree as well as doctorate (Ph.D and/or M.D.)
in medicine or natural sciences with significant
post-doctoral experience.
