The Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Deutsches Rheuma-Forschungszentrum Berlin (DRFZ), jointly invite applications for the following position commencing as soon as possible:

Associate/Full Professorship (W2/W3 with Tenure Track) in
Epidemiology and Health Services Research

Salary Group W2/W3 BBesG
(Reference Number: 532/2019)

The professorship position is initially limited to five years with the possibility of extension to a tenured position, following successful evaluation.
The successful candidate will direct the Program Area of Epidemiology and Health Services Research of the DRFZ. The scientific focus of this professorship lies in the fields of clinical epidemiology, health services research, and pharmacoepidemiology, with a specific emphasis on diseases of the musculoskeletal system in children and adults. An expansion in the field of molecular epidemiology is desirable. The Section of Epidemiology and Health Services Research conducts long-term cohort studies to uncover biological, molecular, and social causes and consequences of rheumatic diseases, seeks to determine the safety and long-term efficacy of new therapies, and conducts research on the quality of care.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong international research profile in epidemiology and/or biostatistics, as well as a medical background or excellent medical knowledge.
Requirements for the application include a completed university degree, a doctorate, and a formal postdoctoral lecturer qualification (habilitation) or comparable scientific qualification and qualified teaching experience in the field of epidemiology and/or biostatistics.
Furthermore, outstanding scientific achievements, successful acquisition of competitive third-party funding and comprehensive experience in the planning, execution, and analysis of (observational) studies in the field of epidemiology with consideration of biological processes and in the field of health services research are desired. This includes the application and, if necessary, further development of complex analytical methods. Moreover, the candidate should demonstrate extensive experience in leading a larger working group and the successful initiation/coordination of research alliances as well as in teaching in academic medical settings.
The successful candidate is expected to work in collaboration with the other DRFZ Program Areas, with the Leibniz ScienceCampus Chronic Inflammation, network with the corresponding Departments of the Charité (including Rheumatology, Epidemiology, Biometrics, and Public Health), as well as participate in postgraduate teaching activities and in the training and academic supervision of junior physicians and scientists.
Qualifications: According to the higher education act of Berlin for hiring professors (§ 100 BerlHG), the academic prerequisites for this position include either a professorship, junior professorship, postdoctoral lecturer qualification (habilitation), or equivalent scientific achievement including qualified teaching experience or a similar qualification plus a scientific degree. The classification into salary group W2 or W3 depends on the personal qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
The Charité and the DRFZ aim to increase the proportion of female employees in research, and therefore strongly encourages applications from female candidates. Female candidates will be given preference over equally qualified male candidates within the framework of legal possibilities. We encourage applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds. Equally-qualified applicants with disabilities will be given preference. The Charité holds a "family-friendly university" certificate and is a member of the "Dual Career Network Berlin" (www.dualcareer-berlin.de).
Written applications should be prepared in compliance with the guidelines described on the webpage https://career.charite.de/am/calls/application_notes.pdf and should be submitted via the weblink https://career.charite.de by January 15th, 2020.
Please address any questions about the research or teaching aspects of the position to Tobias Kurth, MD, ScD, Institute of Public Health, tobias.kurth@charite.de, or Andreas Radbruch, PhD, DRFZ, radbruch@drfz.de.
