Assistant Professorship for Developer-Centred Security (Tenure Track)
Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany's leading research universities. The University draws its strengths from both the diversity and the proximity of scientific and engineering disciplines on a single, coherent campus. This highly dynamic setting enables students and researchers to work across traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties.
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR FOR DEVELOPER-CENTRED SECURITY (TENURE TRACK)
As part of the Cluster of Excellence CASA: Cyber Security in the Age of Large-Scale Attackers, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the Ruhr-University Bochum is seeking to fill a W1 professorship with Tenure Track (W2) for Developer-centred Security as soon as possible. We are looking for a qualified representative of a current research area of human-centred security with a focus on the security understanding and behavior of software developers. The candidates should have an excellent track record in research and teaching in several of the following areas:
Usability of security systems
User-centred design approaches in IT security
Software development processes and practices
Software security, including expertise on security vulnerabilities
Methods for studying security knowledge and behavior of software developers and other technical actors (e.g. system administrators)
Software security patterns and their application in development practice
The candidate must have published empirical research in these areas and have experience with research methods for laboratory, online and field studies with software developers. Experience in designing and conducting intervention studies to improve software security is particularly relevant. We are looking for a researcher with an internationally visible research profile, who can complement the existing focus and actively participate in the expansion of IT security research at the Ruhr University Bochum. We expect successful applicants to cooperate with the Horst Görtz IT-Security Research Department (HGI) and the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Cyber Security and Privacy, and play an active role in current and planned projects, especially in the context of the Cluster of Excellence CASA. The responsibility includes teaching in IT security courses and making a contribution to academic self-administration.
An excellent scientific qualification is required, usually proven by a PhD of outstanding quality and first-class international publications, as well as good didactic skills and experience in teaching and research. Furthermore, the willingness to interdisciplinary work and to acquire third-party funded research projects is expected.
