Assistant Professor (W1) of Economic and Social History with Special Emphasis on Labour and Education (Tenure Track)
The Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies invites applications for the position of
Assistant Professor (W 1 tenure track W 2 salary level) of Economic and Social History with Special Emphasis on Labour and Education
as a limited tenure civil servant to be filled as of the winter semester 2020-2021. Following a positive evaluation conducted at the University of Bamberg after six years'
time, the successful candidate's position will be commuted to a fully tenured W 2 professorship without a public call for additional applications. This tenure-track professorship is
sponsored by the German Federal Government-Länder Tenure-Track Programme.
The successful candidate will be responsible for covering the field of economic and social history as broadly as possible in his or her research and teaching.
He or she should have thematic strengths in the areas of labour and education and a particular focus on the modern period (18th to 20th centuries). The holder
of the post is expected to contribute to the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes as well as the teacher training programmes to which the subject of history
contributes. Readiness to cooperate across disciplinary boundaries is required. In addition, he or she is expected to participate in the development of new curricula
and the internationalisation of the Faculty's course offering, to support its international cooperation and exchange programmes, and to take on duties in the area of
The relevant qualifications consist of a completed academic degree, pedagogical aptitude and a particular talent for academic work generally substantiated by the quality
of the candidate's doctoral degree. Applicants for the tenure-track professorship should have changed universities after completing their doctorate or should have done research
outside of Bamberg University for at least two years.
The selection process shall be conducted according to the provisions of the Bayerisches Hochschulpersonalgesetz (Bavarian Higher Education Employment Act) concerning the
appointment of professors and assistant professors (Art. 18) as well as the statutes of the Otto-Friedrich University Bamberg for regulating the procedure regarding adjustable
appointment options. If the general employment requirements are met, the selected candidate will be employed as a limited-tenure civil servant for an initial period of three years.
Following a positive evaluation, a further three-year extension is intended.
