Assistant Lecturer with Tenure Track (Assistenzdozentur mit Tenure Track) / Lecturer Position (Dozentur) (f/m/d) Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine
Assistant Lecturer with Tenure Track (Assistenzdozentur
mit Tenure Track) or Lecturer Position
The Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine (IBMM;
https://www.ibmm.unibe.ch) of the University of Bern in Switzerland invites applications
for an assistant lecturer with tenure track or lecturer position.
The IBMM is an interdisciplinary institute focusing on the function, structure and
pharmacology of membrane proteins such as transporters, ion channels and membrane
receptors. Towards these research aims we combine biochemistry, chemical
synthesis, chemical biology/analytics, electrophysiology, molecular biology and
structural biology. A strong emphasis is put on the roles of membrane proteins in
human diseases. Both, human ex vivo and genetically-modified mouse models are
applied to study membrane proteins in different diseases, e.g., cancer, cardiac disorders,
preeclampsia and neuropsychiatric disorders.
Research on membrane transporters is driven by the National Centre of Competence
in Research (NCCR) TransCure (www.nccr-transcure.ch). The IBMM is the leading
house of this NCCR.
The IBMM is aiming at expanding its research portfolio in a complementary way.
We therefore are looking for candidates with strong expertise in organoid technology,
transgenic mouse models or in silico studies to explore fundamental
questions in biology and human diseases. Candidates should have a visionary research
plan and strong teaching interests.
Candidates must hold a PhD degree and must have demonstrated their excellence
in their corresponding expertise.
The new assistant lecturer with tenure track or lecturer will build up an independent
research group at the IBMM, and complement and enhance the research
portfolio of the IBMM. He/she will teach students from different degree courses in
biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology and/or biomedical engineering. Since
at the University of Bern most teaching is conducted in German, non-German
speaking candidates are expected to acquire a working knowledge of German within
the first two years of appointment.
The successful candidate will receive besides his/her salary, a basic financial support
from the institute to form a minimal group. It is expected that the successful candidate
applies for third party funding. Assistant lecturers will be promoted to lecturers
(permanent lecturer position) after successful evaluation (typically after 3-4
years). On a mid-term perspective, the Medical Faculty of the University of Bern
gives lecturers the possibility to obtain the title of associate professor.
Please submit your application by email to email@example.com as a single PDF
file including a short motivation letter, CV, list of publications and a two-page
summary of past, current and future research. Please also indicate three references.
The deadline for receipt of applications is June 14, 2021. The IBMM of the
University of Bern is an equal opportunity employer and women are strongly encouraged
