At Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, Germany,
the Faculty for Architecture, Civil Engineering and Urban Planning off ers the
following open positions in the DFG Research Training Group 1913 "Cultural
and technical signifi cance of historic buildings", starting from April 1st, 2020:
10 Academic staff members

The objective of the Research Training Group (RTG) 1913 "Cultural and
technical signifi cance of historic buildings" funded by the German Research
Foundation (DFG) is to utilise knowledge from a variety of fi elds such as art,
technology, and sociology to carry out academic research on historic buildings
belonging to diverse historical and cultural contexts. Historic buildings are
understood in this context to be repositories of cultural value systems and to
include both the cultural and technical knowledge of their time.
This off er addresses architects/engineers with an interest in humanities as well
as scholars of humanities/culture with an interest in engineering. Exceptionally
highly qualifi ed applicants are encouraged to apply, presenting a doctoral project
promising excellent results in the fi elds of assessment of cultural and technical
values of a single historic building/place of cultural signifi cance, or groups of
buildings/places, or an urban structure.
Completed university degree in the humanities or engineering sciences with
reference to the disciplines represented in the RTG. A very good knowledge
English is expected. Since the dissertations may be written in either German or
English, applications will be accepted in either language.
A midterm-review will be held during the first 18 months of employment. If the
doctoral project shows a satisfactory progress, the job position will be extended
up to another 18 months.
