The University of Rostock offers a diverse, varied and demanding job in a tradition-conscious, yet innovative, modern and family-friendly university in a lively city by the sea.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Medical School of the University of Rostock invite applications for 10 PhD positions in quantum science within the DFG-funded International Research Training Group GRK 2676 ‘Imaging quantum systems (IQS): photons, molecules, materials’.

The positions are to be filled from 1st April 2023 on a temporary basis for 3 years:

Research Assistant (m/f/d)
EG 13 TV-L, part-time employment, 30 hours/week, qualification position as PhD

The school has been established between the universities of Rostock in Germany, and Ottawa and Calgary in Canada, with the possibility to obtain a co-tutelle PhD. In their applications, interested candidates shall select three potential PhD projects provided on the IRTG website www.iqs.uni-rostock.de. Selection of the successful candidates will consist of a two-step process: an initial selection of candidates who will be invited for interviews, followed by a final selection of the 10 fellows, each working on an individual project.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • research within the IRTG IQS on a specific science project with the aim of scientific qualification (PhD)
  • 6-12 months visit to one of the Canadian partner institutions
  • publishing research results

Requirements

  • completed university degree (state examination, diploma, master's degree or comparable degree) in quantum science or related subject (physics, engineering etc.) with preferably very good results
  • good knowledge of experimental/theoretical quantum science
  • willingness to work towards further scientific qualification is required
  • willingness to work in a team is essential
  • very good English language skills

Our offer

  • employment relationship in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the Federal States (TV-L) with the employer Land Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, represented by the University of Rostock
  • remuneration with salary group 13 if personal and collective agreement requirements are met
  • an individual assignment of the experience level according to the collective agreement, taking into account your previous professional experience
