The Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences invites applications for a
W3-Professorship for
Political Science/International Politics
beginning 1 October 2013 (within budget considerations).
The professor represents the subjects Political Science and International Politics in both teaching and research. Teaching, which encompasses all aspects of these fields, comprises classes at the BA and MA levels and in the teaching training programme. Motivated, dedicated cooperation in the Master's degree programme “Political Science with an Emphasis on Area Studies“, in particular for Asia, is expected. This region should be the research specialty of the professor applying for this position.
The University of Rostock has bundled its research activities into four areas of competence, whereby the Institute for Political and Administrative Science is particularly active in the areas of “Maritime Systems“ and “Knowledge - Culture - Transformation“. It is expected that the newly hired professor will work on and within one of these areas of competence. Relevant publications and research projects are desired. The institute is actively involved in the post-graduate programme sponsored by the DFG regarding “cultural contact and academic discourse“. This program involves leading colloquia for doctoral students, conducting national and international symposia and authoring English-language publications.

In addition, candidates are expected to have experience and interest in developing programmes that can attract and maintain external funding.
The professorship will be filled according to § 61 LHG M-V as a position with civil servant status for life, or, if applicable, for 5 years. It is also possible to fill the position as a regular state employee.
The University of Rostock is especially interested in promoting women within the context of § 4 (3) of the Gender Equality Act, and therefore specifically encourages applications from qualified women. Disabled applicants will be given preference if all other qualifications are equal.
Applications with the usual documents (full CV, a complete list of academic and professional background, publications, teaching experience, any additional qualifications, a summary of grants and sponsored research activities and a description of future research plans) should be sent no later than 1 March 2012 to the Dean of the Economic and Social Sciences Faculty, University of Rostock, Ulmenstrasse 69, 18051 Rostock.
Application costs cannot be reimbursed by the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. As a token of appreciation and as support for new hires, the University of Rostock will enable the professor to take part in a qualifications programme for newly appointed staff.
