The objective of this Collaborative Research Center (Sonderforschungsbereich, SFB) is to acquire a better understanding of the fundamental mechanisms that govern the balance between self-renewal and differentiation of stem cells. The Consortium of 19 principal investigators represents a new, comprehensive organization, integrating research groups from the Faculties of Biosciences and Medicine (Heidelberg and Mannheim), Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, including ZMBH, and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ).
