The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht in Geesthacht, near Hamburg, and in Teltow, near Berlin, conducts materials and coastal research. You can find more information at www.hzg.de.
Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht is running the German Engineering Materials Science Centre (GEMS) based on the complementary use of synchrotron radiation and neutrons (http://gems.hzg.de). GEMS is operated at outstations at DESY in Hamburg (high-brilliance highenergy photons at PETRA III and DORIS III) and at the Forschungsneutronenquelle Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II) in Garching (close to Munich), the most powerful German neutron source. Our instrumentation is optimised for investigating engineering materials.
Within the "Helmholtz Initiative for Mobile/Stationary Energy Storage Systems", we are searching for a Scientist (postdoc) m/f based in Hamburg (outstation at DESY).
You will work within a consortium of partner institutions from the Helmholtz Association on the characterisation of novel materials for electrochemistry-based energy storage materials with synchrotron radiation and neutron techniques using the GEMS instrumentation. Your responsibility will be to introduce high-energy X-ray diffraction and nano-tomography for this purpose. Required for the position is a PhD or equivalent in chemistry, materials science, physics, physical chemistry or related fields, high flexibility and the ability for independent work. Expertise in the application of synchrotron radiation and/ or neutrons for diffraction or imaging is of major importance. Working experience in the field of electrochemistry and with interface-sensitive scattering techniques would be highly appreciated.
For working with us, you should be a team player and have excellent communication and organisational skills. Good English language skills are required; German language skills are an asset.
This position will be starting as soon as possible and is initially limited for three years with the possibility of a further extension.
We offer an appropriate salary related to TV-AVH as well as the usual public sector social benefits. The advancement of equality at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht goes without saying; in particular, we are striving to increase the percentage of women in the science sector. Severely disabled persons with equal qualifications will be considered preferentially within the framework of legal requirements.
For all inquiries please contact Prof. Dr. Martin Müller (martin.mueller@hzg.de).
Please send your application indicating code-no. 2012/WP 2 to Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, Max-Planck-Straße 1, 21502 Geesthacht, Germany, or preferably to the e-mail address: personal@hzg.de (as pdf-file including, a statement of interest and references). Closing date for applications is February 7th, 2012.
