GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences is an internationally active social science institute belonging to the Leibniz Association. The department "Data Archive for the Social Sciences" provides data service for national and international comparative surveys from the fields of social and political science research.
We are seeking for our location in Cologne to begin April 1, 2012 a
Researcher
(salary group 13 TV-L, 65%, fixed-term contract for 3 years)
for assistance in the EU funded project DASISH (Data Service Infrastructure for the Social Sciences and Humanities) and the GESIS Training Centre for Data Management and Data Archiving.
DASISH develops solutions to common infrastructure issues of the five ESFRI projects in the social sciences and humanities. Here are four main areas: data quality, data archiving, data access and legal and ethical issues.
Area of reponsibility:
- Assistance in the work package for data archiving, including evaluation of data-repository systems and recommendations on policies
- Participation in the work package for legal and ethical issues, including assistance in the creation of virtual competence center
- Assistance in the GESIS Training Centre, including design and implementation of workshops on data archiving issues (data entry, long-term preservation, data storage and data formats, metadata, ethics, etc.)
Requirements:
- Above-average university degree of a relevant discipline, preferably in social sciences or information sciences / computer science
- Very good knowledge in the field of empirical social research and data management
- Knowledge of documentation and archiving of research data is an advantage
- Knowledge of database and repository systems is an advantage
- Fluent in written and spoken English; Proficiency in German or other languages is an advantage.
The possibility to attain a doctorate is given.
