The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for the position of a Professor (W3) in experimental solid-state physics to start as soon as possible.
 
The future holder of the post will represent the area of experimental solid-state physics in research and teaching. The research should be focused on low- and zero-dimensional quantum physics of semiconductors, metals and oxides or combinations thereof. Participation in interdisciplinary research activities at the Ruhr-Universität within existing Research Departments in the field of solid-state and materials physics is expected. The new professor is expected to cooperate with the solid-state groups. These activities comprise GaAs-based heterostructures, magnetic nanoclusters, focused ion beams, scanning tunneling microscopy, time- and frequency-resolved spectroscopy and solid-state theory. Possible research topics include (but are not limited to) large band gap semiconductor quantum dots, molecular electronics, solid-state based photonics, nanoparticles and diamond optics/electronics. Expertise in sample preparation and analysis should complement the existing research portfolio of the department.
 
Positive evaluation as a junior professor or equivalent academic achievement (e.g. habilitation) and evidence of special aptitude are just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the RUB and to generally get involved in university processes according to RUB’s mission statement.
 
We expect specifically:
- an outstanding teaching record, didactic skills and specific commitment to teaching in Experimental Physics at undergraduate and graduate level, including the supervision of Bachelor and Master theses,
- willingness and ability to acquire significant research funds.
