Postdoctoral Scientist

Description: The clinical cooperation unit "Molecular Oncology of Solid Tumors" is offering a position for a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist, to join our interdisciplinary translational research team at the DKFZ in Heidelberg. The position also includes the role of a vicecoordinator for the department.The position is immediately available to work on projects addressing, but not being limited to, the role of microRNAs, tumor cell-stroma interactions, specific metastasis-related genes and tumor suppressor genes in the metastasis of solid tumors, including colorectal or lung cancer.The position will also explore viral gene therapy concepts in solid cancers. Furthermore, molecular markers of response and resistance towards novel molecular targeted therapies are in the center of our research interests. Our methodology includes the whole spectrum of molecular and cellular biology, virology, proteolysis, transcription and signal transduction, tumor banking, prognostic studies, diverse in vivo models relevant for translational research, and high-throughput techniques.
 
Your profile:
- Doctoral degree (PhD or MD/PhD) in molecular biology, cancer biology or virology
- Excellent writing and communication skills as evidenced by publications and fluency in English, preferably also German
- Experience in molecular and cellular methods, preferably also in large throughput techniques such as gene expression profiling, sequencing, epigenetics, etc.
- Experience in national and/or international grant applications would be appreciated
- Strong interest in metastasis, virology, and translational research
- Enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary team including researchers and also clinicians, including international collaborators and collaborators from the industry
 
The position is initially limited until 31st December 2010 starting 1st March 2010 with the possibility for an extension.The position can in principle be part-time.
