The international Research School „Education and Capabilities“ at Bielefeld University and Technische Universität Dortmund invites applications for 3-year

PhD scholarships

in the fields of Educational Science, Linguistics, Psychology, Rehabilitation Science and Sociology.

In December 2008 the Research School started with 25 scholarship holders and now announces the 2nd cohort of scholarships beginning 1 October 2010.

In focus of the interdisciplinary research is the analysis of developmental options and opportunities that help children and adolescents to advance their social and language related competencies. Using the Capabilities Approach it investigates processes in formal, non-formal and informal contexts of growing up.

One of the focal points of the School's empirical research is a large-scale longitudinal study on conditions of growing up and schooling that provides instruction in both quantitative and qualitative research methods. It also allows students to take an active part in collecting and analysis of data for their own doctoral work. The scholarship is EUR 1,300 per month.

The Research School will provide work places in Bielefeld or Dortmund.

Applicants are expected both to hold a higher degree clearly above average and conduct their doctoral research in one of the Research School's areas.

To find further information about the broad fields for doctoral theses, the longitudinal study and the application procedure see www.educap.de.

Deadline for applications is 19 April 2010.
