Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology, Tuebingen invites applications for the following tenure-track position:

Head of Electron Microscopy Facility

We are seeking a highly interdisciplinary scientist with notable research achievements to lead our electron microscopy (EM) facility.
 
Candidates should hold a PhD in the life sciences, biophysics or a related field. Applicants must also possess significant and wide-ranging experience within the fields of classical and modern, cryofixation-based cellular- and immuno-electron microscopy. Experience in molecular cryoelectron microscopy would be an advantage.
 
The successful candidate will be expected to establish procedures, operate and maintain the facility, collaborate with other research groups and provide guidance in EM to other scientists and PhD students on campus. He/she may also engage in joint projects with scientists from outside the Tuebingen Campus.
 
The EM facility at the Max-Planck-Institute of Developmental Biology in Tuebingen has modern resources consisting of appropriate staff trained in specimen preparation and image processing, as well as state-of-the-art instrumentation including three electron microscopes (an Hitachi S-800 FE-SEM, a Philips CM10, and an FEI Tecnai Spirit Biotwin for cryo-TEM) and dedicated machines for high pressure freezing, freeze-substitution and sectioning. The position is available immediately. A contract according to standard German TVöD procedures will be offered to the successful candidate.
