The University of Duisburg-Essen and CeNIDE offer a position as

Head of a Junior Research Group

dedicated to the research field of “Electrochemical methods for fuel cells and batteries” in its first phase for a period of two years.

We are seeking a young scientist with a very good track record of scientific achievements, who will establish a research program in the field of electrochemical analytics, preferably with experiences in one or more of the following areas:

- Impedance spectroscopy
- AFM, SECM
- electrochemical characterization of fuel cells and batteries

The applicant should have the ability to lead a group of young researchers, to establish new analytical and electrochemical methods for improvement of fuel cells and batteries, and to actively pursue the cooperation between the Center for Nanointegration at the University Duisburg-Essen (CeNIDE) , the Center for Fuel Cell Technology (ZBT), Duisburg, and the Center for Electrochemical Sciences (CES), Ruhr University Bochum.

We offer a position in a scientifically most interesting research field with best future prospects in a well established interdisciplinary network and the chance to build up a young team. There are significant start-up funds for equipment and vacant positions for 2-3 young researchers.

CeNIDE, established in 2005, is the University’s strategic framework for cross-disciplinary research and teaching in nanosciences. It brings together more than forty research groups from Chemistry, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Physics, and Medicine, with a total of approximately 300 scientists. CeNIDE research groups are well funded by state, federal and European funding agencies.

ZBT is a research institute with 95 employees and has been funded by the State of North-Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and the European Fund for Regional Development since 2001. The scientific equipment is of cutting edge technology. The focus is applied research for development of fuel cells and Li-batteries ranging from electrochemical characterization to production technology.

CES has been founded in 2009 by the Ruhr-University Bochum and the Max-Planck Institut für Eisenforschung, Düsseldorf, and is supported by the NRW state and ThyssenKrupp Steel. CES is regarded as a Center of Excellence with the task to ensure internationally competitive research in modern and future electrochemistry at a high standard.

The University Duisburg-Essen is located in the Rhine-Ruhr area, Europe’s third largest cosmopolitan center, named European Capital of Culture 2010. We are an equal-opportunity employer committed to excellence through diversity and therefore explicitly encourage applications from women. Disabled persons with equivalent qualifications will be considered preferentially.

Candidates are invited to submit their application, including curriculum vitae, publication list, statement of research interests, as well as documentation of their academic degrees, not later than August 18, 2010 to:
