Full Professor (W3) of Applied Microbiology
Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Sciences, and Natural Sciences
We invite applications for teaching and research in the area of Applied Microbiology. Appointment should begin 01.10.2010. In-depth knowledge of Physiology and Genetics of microorganisms is a must.
The successful candidate should have expertise in Functional Genomics and Systems Biology with a focus on the conversion and production of technically relevant compounds by using designer microorganisms (pro- or eukaryotic). Production on a technical scale and a potential for collaborations with partner institutes at RWTH Aachen University and the Forschungszentrum Jülich are also important. Participation in the University's current activities in "Metabolic Engineering", such as the Excellence Cluster "Tailor-made fuels from Biomass", and willingness to collaborate with the Life Sciences and technologically oriented Departments are expected. The successful candidate will participate in teaching Microbiology and Genetics to students in Biology and Biotechnology/Molecular Biotechnology programs. Participation in self-administrative duties of RWTH Aachen University and faculty are also needed.
A Ph.D. degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant / an associate / a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. German is not necessary to begin with but will be expected to be teaching language after 5 years. Furthermore, an excellent publication record in international journals, outstanding success in obtaining external funding and excellent teaching skills are desired.
