Full Professor (W2)
in Experimental Physics (Biophysics)
We are seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research in the area of experimental biophyics . The starting date is January 1, 2011. The research of the new professor should focus on physical mechanisms in biological systems on the molecular scale, the interaction of biosystems with artificial nanostructures, or on the development and application of novel methods to detect and manipulate properties and functionalities of biosystems. The successful candidate is expected to establish interactions with the existing nanoscience activities in the RWTH physics institutes and with molecular and nanobiological activities of other research groups at RWTH, FZ Jülich or Fraunhofer Institutes in Aachen, and participate in the DFG research training group 'Biointerface'. The teaching activities are supposed to cover all areas of experimental physics.
A Ph.D. degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant / an associate / a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. German is not necessary to begin but will be expected as a teaching language within the first 5 years.
