Doctoral Programme "Urban Metamorphoses"

The HafenCity University Hamburg – University of the Built Environment and Metropolitan Development offers participation in the Doctoral Programme "Urban Metamorphoses" dealing with social, technological, economic, cultural, landscape, infrastructural, and spatial changes in urban and city contexts. Joining the programme, doctoral students will enter a laboratory for developing a sensibility for urban change and for future planning interventions, outlining the metropolitan questions of tomorrow. It provides an intense doctoral education with excellent theoretical and methodological research training.
 
Dissertation topics should engage in one of the following research areas choosing international case studies:
 

• Aspects and dimensions of urban metamorphoses analyzing its multifaceted drivers, i.e. changes of urban, landscape, and infrastructural planning, social, cultural, and economic structures, urban governance, etc. and its underlying development contexts and impacts;
• Development of methods and (digital) tools to analyze and visualize urban metamorphoses using GIS, photogrammetry, and remote sensing
• Advancing action strategies by analyzing and developing a theoretically enhanced understanding of the complex and the city framing impacts
