Associate Senior Lecturer Position
in Dependable Computation and Communication Systems
Reference number: 2642-12
The Laboratory of Advanced Computing and Communications for Industrial Applications (ACaCIA Lab) at the Chair of Dependable Computation and Communication (DCC) Systems belongs to the LTU Division of Computer Science. Dependable Computation and Communication Systems is a broad discipline that covers design and development of mission-critical computer-based information, control and communication systems in various industries. Central research areas are related to distributed information and control systems design, such as large scale industrial automation systems, material handling and transport infrastructures, new energy generation and consumption infrastructure (SmartGrid or Energy Internet) and 4G communication infrastructures.
Research at ACACIA
Research activities at ACACIA focus mainly on various aspects of modern industrial computing; such as system level design and validation of industrial control and automation systems, simulation and verification and dependable communication.
The research challenges are related to guaranteeing dependability of industrial and social computer-based systems achieved on account of various measures, from application of systematic model-based software and hardware design processes, to development of reliable adaptive communication protocols.
DCC subject description: The research subject focuses on an integrated development of network architectures, resource efficient algorithms, and programming paradigms for enabling an application-tailored design of dependable communication and computing systems.
Position description
ACaCIA lab is seeking an Associate Senior Lecturer to strengthen research in the area of Advanced Industrial Automation Computing with possible application in one of the following sectors:
- Process technologies or manufacturing;
- Energy generation, transmission and distribution;
- Material handling and transportation.
The position is funded for two years with potential extension subject to funding.
Research directions
The research directions expected from the candidate to this position include (but is not limited to) the following:
- development of the corresponding theories;
- methods of systems analysis and synthesis;
- system architectures; methods of system integration;
- system strategies and applications;
- applications of artificial intelligence;
- computer-aided systems and software engineering frameworks;
- communication protocols and standards;
- verification and validation methods and processes.
This research may also include investigation of organisational prerequisites and economic impact of the aforementioned engineering developments.
Work assignments
The associate senior lecturer is expected to actively participate in and to carry out research within the department's research areas, and to participate in applications for external research funding. The research work is expected to contribute to the development of knowledge in the field of distributed industrial computing.
The associate senior lecturer is responsible for and will be participating in the development and implementation of courses, in particular within the Master's programme in Computer Science and Engineering. The position includes also supervision of Swedish and international Master's students. Teaching at the Master's level is carried out in English.
All teaching is conducted as combined campus/distance teaching. One of the related goals is to develop the concept of on-line learning further in the field of information security, and to participate in continuous development of pedagogical virtual information security laboratory facilities.
