Jacobs University Bremen gGmbH

Jacobs University Bremen is a private university offering degrees in engineering, natural sciences, humanities and social sciences at bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. Jacobs University has more than 1,300 students from over 100 different countries.

The School of Engineering and Science at Jacobs University Bremen has an opening for an

Assistant Professorship of Bio-inspired
Logistics (Ref. #2170.2)

In general, logistic processes are characterized by unpredictable effects of changing environmental and systemic conditions (e.g. demand fluctuations or changes in order sequences at work systems) on the logistics performance. Logistics service providers as well as production companies are seeking for robust systems which are able to deal with these constraints in a logistic network while keeping the performance high. Biological systems have evolved towards diverse forms of robust function.
Hence, the profile of the professorship Bio-inspired Logistics regards the following topics:

  • Decision processes in logistics derived from biological (e.g. metabolic) systems
  • Derivation of control parameters
  • Transfer of methods and design principles from Systems Biology to Logistics
  • Applications of complex network theory to Logistics
  • Implementing a general "learning from Biology" perspective, both in research and teaching
  • Development of approach towards application in industry

We are seeking a dynamic individual who is eager to advance our strongly trans-disciplinary environment for education and research. The successful candidate is expected to play a prominent role in the further development of the undergraduate and graduate programs of international logistics at Jacobs University.

The candidate will be responsible for

  • designing and delivering courses of the program International Logistics
  • supervising theses and students' projects
  • mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
