The Hochschule
Exclusive
The University of Music Saarland/Germany is the only internationally acknowledged institution of music education far beyond the SaarLorLux area.
It was one of the first "Hochschulen" to become a member of the German "Rektorenkonferenz der Musikhochschulen." Founded in 1947 according to the ideal of the Paris Conservatoire de musique, it has been recognized for over 60 years as one of the most important institutions of musical culture in the greater areas of the Saarland, Lorraine, Luxembourg, Walloon and Rhineland-Palatinate.
Well located
As part of the so called "Kulturmeile" (mile of culture), the HFM is well located between the StateTheatre and the Museum of Contemporary Art in the city of Saarbrücken. In the lively and cosmopolitan capital of the Saarland, not only the arts, but also the art of enjoyable living characterizes Saarbrücken through the geographical and spiritual link to France and French influences.
The "most European" state of Germany
Due to its central position in the heart of Old Europe, the great European capitals are in close proximity to Saarbrücken. By connection to the German-French highspeed train system, Paris can be reached in less than two hours, as well as the international traffic centre of Frankfurt/Main. Saarbrücken is well connected to the German Highway System and has its own airport.
Studies with individual attention
From ancient to contemporary music, the Hochschule offers a broad variety in music education for the most important artistic and pedagogical professions. Over 400 students of the HFM are trained by about 120 professors and teachers. This enables studies with much personal touch and individual coaching. Renowned musicians and education of high quality have provided for an excellent international reputation. In the past, the HFM sharpened its profile especially in the pedagogical branches. In addition to the "classical" disciplines, education in the fields of jazz and popular music has gained more and more importance.
