Where creativity is the key

The Cologne University of Music and Dance

Cologne University of Music and Dance

The Cologne University of Music and Dance is one of the best-established and most highly regarded universities of music in Europe, and the largest in the Federal Republic of Germany.

It offers excellence training across the full range of artistic, musicological and music education subjects and an accordingly comprehensive and broad selection of courses. The proximity and balance between artistic, educational and scientific training is one of the great advantages the university offers young artists, teachers and scientists. Numerous cross-disciplinary projects that highlight the interrelationships between the individual degree subjects provide students with a qualified and future-oriented education. The Cologne University of Music and Dance is further distinguished by its consistent interdisciplinarity, extensive practical orientation and international networking with numerous high-ranking partner universities within and outside Europe.

The university considers its position as a regional cultural organisation a significant part of its identity at all its sites (Cologne, Aachen, Wuppertal). With over 450 events held in Cologne, Aachen and the Maas-Rhine Euregio as well as Wuppertal and the Bergisches Land, and many large-scale events (opera productions, International Dance Weeks, the Cologne Jazz Night, the Bach, Classic and Romantic Nights, the festival "Die 3. Art", the Bergisch Biennial for Contemporary Music, and many more), the university in its entirety is an integral part of cultural life. Numerous co-operation agreements with other cultural organisations, municipal and regional institutions reflect the broad acceptance the Cologne University of Music and Dance enjoys in local culture and cultural promotion.
