An Overview of the Study Programmes

Bachelor of Music (4 years)

Artistically oriented study course with various fields of study.

In each field of study, there are six different focuses for the creation of an individual study profile. The respective main subject is the central focus throughout the entire studies. In each semester students can take freely available options in addition to the selected focuses. They are individually guided and supported in the creation of their study profile by two mentors.

Master of Music (2 years)

Advanced and extension courses with various fields of study.

Bachelor of Arts "Music teaching" (4 years)

Practically oriented pedagogic studies for a multitude of musical professions based on the imparting of knowledge, including school music for the secondary level II. There is a choice of various fields of study for the creation of a personal study profile. Each of these fields offers the respective professional qualification as well as an opportunity to gain a Master of Education title immediately after the studies or also at a later date (necessary for entrance into the teaching profession).

Master of Education (2 years)

The second part of the study course to become a music teacher at a grammar school contains many pedagogic and practical elements and, if applicable, a second subject. Prerequisite is a Bachelor of Arts or Education.


"Opera Elite Studio" (1 year)

Advanced and extension course for vocal soloists in cooperation with the Lübeck theatre, equivalent to a focused Master study course. Participation in professional theatre productions parallel to studies at the Lübeck University of Music.


Extracurricular music lessons for gifted pupils

A facility for the promotion of the very young elite with a diverse range of courses for school pupils with above-average talent. The prerequisite for admission is the successful completion of an entrance audition. A fee is charged per semester.

Application and admission

After the completion of a successful entrance audition, studies can commence in the summer semester or in the winter semester. The closing date for applications is 1st April or 1st December each year.


Dates for entrance auditions

  • For the summer semester: end of February to the beginning of March
  • For the winter semester: beginning to middle of June
