Broad spectrum - high level

The University of Music Carl Maria von Weber Dresden offers an extraordinary and broad range of study programmes to its students and provides not only an outstanding musical education at the highest level but also gives many opportunities for specializing. Two central parts of the University's educational programmes are Orchestra Studies and the work of the Opera Class. Intensive activities in the field of New Music and Jazz/Rock/Pop, and the focus on Research and Music Education complete the profile of the Dresden University of Music.

The collaborations with theatres, educational institutions and orchestras, namely, with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sächsische Staatskapelle, guarantee an excellent practical training.

There is an up to date combination of additional course choices offered in the institution that will be an essential prerequisite for the flexibility of today's graduates. The Institutes for Musical Research, for Musician-Medicine, for Musical Teaching and Learning and for New Music offer a platform for intensive scientific occupation. Contacts and partnerships with over 20 foreign universities and international competitions foster the process of internationalization of the HfM. ith the 'Junior Class' and the 'Landesgymnasium für Musik', the University of Music plays a key role in the local promotion of highly talented children and young adults.

The HfM offers the opportunity for a doctor's degree in the subjects Musical Research, Music Education and Music Theory. We intend to adjust all study programmes to Bachelor and Master until 2010.
