Exceptionally qualified students holding a Bachelor's degree may be recommended for the PhD fast-track program.
The application period is annually from December 1st to February 1st. For online submission of applications please visit
www.mcn.lmu.de/apply. Please note that we only accept online applications!
The following documents need to be included:
- CV
- Transcript of records
- Degree certificate (if applicable)
- Certificate of English proficiency
- Two letters of recommendation by academic advisors
- Letter of motivation
Also read carefully the instructions and hints on the application website
We are aware that many applicants will not hold a degree yet. In that case, an up-to-date transcript of records is sufficient. You must have finished your degree by the time the program begins!
The evaluation of candidates follows a 2-stage procedure:
In the 1st stage of evaluation, your uploaded documents will be reviewed by 3 to 4 members of the GSN faculty. For the 2nd stage, the most promising candidates will be invited to Munich for 1 week in the beginning of March for personal interviews with, again, 3 to 4 members of the GSN faculty (expenses covered by the GSN-LMU up to a limited amout).
PhD candidates should use this time to find a project and a supervisor for their PhD research, since we can only admit PhD candidates who find a host lab.
The GSN-LMU offers structure not stipends! Nevertheless, all PhD students admitted to the GSN-LMU will receive financial support, provided by the prospective supervisor.
Students in the Master's program can apply individually to foundations or other organisations for financial support. For international students we recommend DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) stipends. In order to earn money to cover living expenses, many students get jobs in associated labs. Next to the convenience of earning money this offers the opportunity to improve your scientific skills make contacts, and get acquainted with different working groups and their field of research.
