Training par excellence
Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) is synonymous with an excellent quality of training and highly committed teachers who themselves enjoy international reputations as artists, academics and teachers. The successes of its students speak for themselves. The most recent success story is the 27-year-old conductor and graduate of Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, Andreas Hotz, who recently won third prize in the 4th Georg Solti International Conductors' Competition at the Alte Oper concert hall in Frankfurt. Mr. Hotz was the first German to have ever reached the final of this highly prestigious competition for which 540 candidates from all over the world had registered. He graduated with distinction in 2006 from the conducting class of Prof. Wojciech Rajski.
Networked university
Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts is an excellent example of a networked university that is constantly developing new and innovative courses in cooperation with partner institutes. For example, the one-year master's course in conjunction with the International Ensemble Modern Akademie (IEMA), which is aimed at outstandingly talented young musicians in the fields of instrumental playing (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, piano, percussion, guitar, violin, viola, violoncello, double bass), composition, conducting and sound directing. Students admitted to the course are awarded scholarships by the IEMA, for which a separate contract is concluded. The Ensemble Modern, one of the world's leading ensembles for new music, awards grants through its International Ensemble Modern Akademie (IEMA) with the support of the German Federal Cultural Foundation and the Cultural Foundation of North-Rhine Westphalia (for young musicians from North-Rhine Westphalia).
Hessian Theatre Academy
Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts is a dynamic university offering musical training with a practical orientation. All universities in Hesse involved in theatrical training, the Hessian state theatres and all municipal theatres, as well as some theatres in the federal states of Baden-Württemberg and the Rhineland-Palatinate, are united under the umbrella of the Hessian Theatre Academy (HTA), which was founded in 2002 and has its headquarters at Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. A wide range of contacts and connections open up a wealth of new opportunities for students to prepare for the complexities of their future artistic careers. Students may stage examination pieces in the theatres, giving them a first insight into the professional world of theatre evenings and performances. Since 2006, Prof. Heiner Goebbels, one of the most important figures in the contemporary music and theatre scene, has been president of the training and production association of the HTA.
