The faculty of architecture, urban planning, and landscape planning at the university of Kassel is seeking to fill the following position by the 1. April 2026
We are looking for a person with proven expertise who will represent the department of building physics in the institute of architecture regarding research and teaching. The department forms a working group with close interdisciplinary cooperation in teaching and research together with the departments of design and sustainable building, design in existing buildings, and technical building services. Further interrelationships exist with departments of open space planning and climatology. The professorship represents the interface between architecture and engineering specialist disciplines.
The scope of teaching covers all study levels. This includes architecture courses in bachelor studies, as well as specialized subjects in master studies with a focus on "environmentally friendly planning and building". Building physics and its effects on the energy and sustainability design of buildings are to be taught in an application-based manner. Participation in cooperative, interdisciplinary design projects is expected. The area of responsibility also includes cross-faculty courses as well as the scientific supervision of the external education programme "energy, building, environment".
In research, the acquisition and implementation of disciplinary and interdisciplinary research projects is expected, as well as the national and international communication of the results.
Official duties also include participation in committees of the university's academic self-administration.
The faculty is looking for a person with several years of professional experience within or outside academia in the field of building physic and its effects on energy and sustainability design. A high level of didactic competence is expected, as evidenced by relevant teaching experience, as well as well-founded experience in future-oriented research in the profile of the professorship, demonstrated, for example, by the acquisition of third-party funding and the implementation of research projects. Proof of scientific qualification is required to have completed a qualified doctorate as well as a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent achievements (in the form of scientific publications). Very good knowledge of German is required.
Good English language skills, international and construction experience, as well as activities in several of the following areas are desirable:
- Energy-efficient construction as an integral part of architecture
- Thermal building simulation and hygrothermal component analyses
- BIM, AI-supported planning methods, generative design techniques
- Resource-optimised and recycling-friendly construction
- Building materials science as the basis of architectural design
- Life cycle analyses and building physics planning tools
- Metrological evaluation of building materials and components
- Building and room acoustics

The prerequisites for employment and performance requirements are determined by §§ 67, 68 of the Higher Education Act of the Federal State of Hesse (HessHG).
